Mission: Find Aral
Synopsis:
In the summer of 2020 we quit our jobs and left our flats in Paris, France and set off to Central Asia. We ended up living between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan for ~10 months.
Mission: Find Aral is a 4-part documentary series telling a story of the Aral Sea.
In 1960, the Aral Sea was roughly the size of the Republic of Ireland, and its fishing industry the greatest economic asset to the region. It has since lost ~90% of its water, creating what is now the Aralkum desert. The region’s people, economy, and ecosystems have suffered tremendously.
Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said “the depletion of the Aral Sea is one of the planet’s most shocking disasters”.
The series explore how the disaster occurred, how it has effected local people, ecosystems, and indsutry, and then celebrates the innoviative developments projects that are looking to create a better future.
